According to its website this university has had a complex history, merging, separating and reforming itself over the decades. Here is the current account of the university structure. There is a Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), which is a leading public, national university. This university has eleven members, one of which is the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In my experience naming a component campus of a university as another university is not the done thing, but that is what the sign and website says.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is located a little to the west of the centre of Hanoi. The campus is not overly large, and the buildings are clearly elderly, constructed in the French colonial style. The university is small, a line of half a dozen or so buildings. The university dates back to 1956. There are in total 13,000 students and 500 academic staff. The university has a wide range of socially oriented faculties, including history, philosophy, literature, and, of course, foreign languages.

Entry to the campus is unrestricted.
