The Mormon Pioneer Trail, from Nauvoo, Illinois to Salt Lake City was the primary route followed by members of the LDS Church as they escaped from persecution in the east. It was used from Brigham Young's first party of 247 pioneers in 1846 to the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1868.
