Many buggies and carriages were made in the Mier Carriage and Buggy Co. This three story building was later known as the Wirk Garment Company. It greatly deterioted in the early 2000's and was later razed.
Carriages were the elite transportation of the day and the Jewish homes most all had a "carriage house" to house their carriage and horses. The carriage depicted in this mural was found in Washington,PA, and purchased by a group of 12 or more interested people. It was tarrered and broken but after receiving a grant, the carriage was restored to its original state, if not better. The metal tag on the back identifies it from the Mier Carriage Co.,Ligonier, IN. It is presently on display in the Hertiage Station Museum at 800 Lincolnway South, Ligonier.
