Originated from the purchase of The City Oil Wagon by Elias Tyler from L.G. Cooper in September, 1907. After the death of his father in 1909, Ed Tyler continued to drive the waon for ten years.
In 1919 he purchased the City Oil Wagon from his mother and continued to drive it until 1923. At this time he sold the business to Mr. Ed Crockett and went to work for the Topeka Home Oil Co., owned by the Kempp and Leming of Topeka. He worked for this company for five years, which required them to build a Bulk Plant at Ligonier.
In 1928 he bought the Bulk Plant from the Topeka Home Oil Company. Mr. Tyler delivered kerosene to residents in Ligonier and the surrounding area with his tanker which was pulled my a horse.
This mural shows Mr.Tyler, his dog and the oil tanker he pulled around to make the deliveries.
