Marker Name: Walter Franks Building
Marker Text: This two-story structure housed most of Redmond’s Federal agricultural agencies in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The original owner, Walter Franks, was a longtime rancher and philanthropist in Central Oregon. He once owned the present site of Sunriver and gave over $300,000 to start the Central Oregon Opportunity Center. In 1945, Franks traded the building to H.G. Rainey for two ranches in Powell Butte. Rainey then opened the Square Deal Furniture Store in the building. The structure is an example of the Streamline Moderne style.
Built: 1939
