The bust is white marble and on a marble and brick pedestal. The bust has full bearded Samuel McHose wearing a coat. The marble bust is a replacement of an earlier bronze bust which was stolen in the 1970's. On the upper portion of the pedestal is an inscription:

FIRST MAYOR OF ALLENTOWN 1867-1869
CAPTAIN OF INDUSTRY
PUBLIC SPIRITED CITIZEN
AND A BELOVED FATHER
REVERENTLY ERECTED 1926
BY HIS SONS HIRAM AND LUCIUS

On a plaque mounted on the lower pedestal it reads:
