Solomon Mier was born September 15, 1833 in Kerchburg, Germany and came to America, settling in Auburn,IN. Mr.Mier & Frederick Straus came to Ligonier in 1854. He was a peddler selling spices from packs on his back. He came to Ligoinier bacause of the river and the railroad being built to connect New York and Chicago with a stop in Ligonier. During his later years Mier had interests in various enterprises along which was the Mier Carriage and Buggy Co. and was assisted by his son A.B.Mier. Solomon died in 1910. The Carriage and Buggy Co.was one of Ligonier's largest employers. Mr. Mier built approximately 11-15 Mier Automobiles called the "Runabout"in this building.
The mural depicts Mr. Mier, the Mier Carriage building and the Runabout Automobile he built.
