There are several Cross and Crown quilt block patterns. This one features a red cross on a white background, the cross of St George and the national flag of England. The crown is a circular pattern of yellow square points and golden triangles representing the points on the crown. There is also a large tilted central royal blue square.

The church is at 101 North Main across the road from the Times Journal building with the sundial quilt block. The quilt block is on the south wall facing Avery St.
Your Visit:
I came to Burnsvile NC to view a specific Quilt Block, the sundial quilt painted on the Times Journal building. Exploring Burnsville we saw many other interesting quilt blocks. This is one of over 200 quilt patterns on the Quilt Block Trail of North Carolina. See www.quilttrailswnc.org We were impressed with the civic pride and community spirit shown in preserving the folk art of Painted Barn Quilts. This one on Higgins Memorial Meathodist Church one of many attractive quilt blocks painted on local buildings. The tradition has grown beyond barns to many other buildings, public and private.
