Apparently this church was built as a commemoration of the recognition of the administrative autonomy of Olhão over Quelfes (as things change... nowadays Quelfes is administratively dependent of Olhão).
It was originally built (1698-1715)in a very sober style, being raised by military architects who brought a practical tone to the church, with scarce decoration. Later, in 1785, a second layer was set on the top of the original building, this time with a beautiful element.
In the back of the church, there is an open chapel for worshiping.
