The first Finnish immigrated from eastern Oregon to the Long Valley area in the 1890s. However, most came to settled here between 1900 and 1925. They came here for the forests, mountains and the meadows, which appealed to them more that the desert country of Oregon. These Long Valley Finns were farmers and loggers. Many of the Finn's were Lutherans. So in 1917 they built the "Finn Church". The building is maintained by the Finnish Ladies Aid Society.

The Finnish Cemetery that is next to the Church reflects the life in Long Valley.
