The city of Udon Thani (Udon) is one of the larger cities in Thailand, located near the border with Laos. Near the city centre is the Phra Phuttha Phothong, an ancient and important Buddha image housed in a shrine, near other important cultural sites, in the government precinct. Guarding the shrine building are these two small, but ferocious looking lions.
The lions are in white marble, maybe half a metre in size, and face inwards flanking the entrance. As this is a shrine remove hat and sunglasses when approaching.
