The North University City library branch was built in 2007 at the same time as the adjacent recreation center and playground (where there is usually at least one geocache, too). The library is worth visiting not only for its book and movie holdings, but also because a guy who looks exactly like Santa Claus works there. The sculpture outside, "Sprout" by Blue McRight, is appropriate because San Diego, especially the university that is near this library, is a well-known center of genetic research, and the "sprouts" on the sculpture sport the letters representing the amino acids that make up genes.
