Deze wipmolen is gebouwd in 1639 ter vervanging van een oudere molen elders in de Gemenewegse polder, waarschijnlijk uit 1570. De molen werd gebruikt voor de bemaling van deze polder tot 1957 waarna deze in reserve werd gehouden tot 1960. In dat jaar werd de molen verkocht.
De Rooie Wip is maalvaardig maar niet langer in gebruik voor polderbemaling. Hij kan tijdens draaidagen op zaterdag worden bezocht.
This windmill was build in 1639 as a replacement for an even older windmill, perhaps dating from 1570, elsewhere in the Gemenewegse polder.
The mill was in active use until 1957 and afterwards kept in reserve until 1960 when it was eventually sold.
The 'Rooie Wip' is still functional but not in use for waterpumping anymore. It is usually open to the public on Saturdays.
