In 1907 the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway, predecessor of Ontario Northland, chose 'Little Lakes Camping Ground' to be its junction point with the National Transcontinental. The current station was in place by 1912; although it has been extensively renovated since then. The National Transcontinental was repolaced by Canadian National in 1918; the latter ceasing passenger operations by 1977. Since then this station has been the change-over point between the Northlander (Toronto - Cochrane) and Polar Bear Express trains (Cochrane - Moosonee)
The building currently (2012) also houses a hotel and restaurant.
