"One Aldwych is a luxury five-star hotel in London, England. Founded by Gordon Campbell Gray, One Aldwych lies in the Aldwych in Covent Garden in City of Westminster.

Exterior

Located in a building constructed in 1907 by the same architects who designed The Ritz, the hotel is in the Edwardian style. It is located on the corner of The Aldwych and Wellington Street, adjacent to the Novello Theatre and opposite the London Transport Museum. The Waldorf Hilton is just metres away on the same side of The Aldwych. For many years the building was used for The Morning Post newspaper office purposes. In 1998 the hotel was restored by Jestico Whiles Associates who purposefully retained its Edwardian style, and also included Louis XVI ornaments to furnish it, including a 400 piece art collection. The exterior is also made from Norwegian granite.

Interior

Rooms

The hotel contains 105 rooms and suites. The rooms are described by Lonely Planet as being "spacious and stylish with raw silk curtains, natural tones and modern art, with bath tubs big enough for two". The standard rooms in 2004 were priced at £315 a night and the two bedroom deluxe rooms at £1045. The suites are priced between £550 and £1525 a night.

Of note is the Dome Suite, which is the hotel penthouse, which regularly hosts wealthy international executives and business magnates. The founder, Campbell Gray, has professed that the hotel is intended to be a classic hotel and is not intended to be a boutique hotel or geared towards "young, trendy people", although the hotel does attract many fashionistas and West End aficionados under 40.

The hotel contains a 400 piece art collection purchased by Campbell Gray, featuring artists such as Cecilia Vargas, Richard Walker, Joost Beerents, Emily Young and Justine Smith.

Restaurants and bars

One Aldwych contains two restaurants, The Axis and Indigo, and two bars and The Lobby Bar. Indigo serves modern European cuisine and is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Brunch on weekends and bank holidays. The Axis restaurant serves British cuisine and is closed Sunday and Monday, and open for lunch and dinner only on other days although just dinner on Saturday. It is available for private functions.

The Lobby Bar is located in the grand high-ceilinged lobby which was once the reception area to the former newspaper building. The grand lobby has been described as "dramatic and aircraft-hangar-capacious with enormous polished oak arched windows." The Lobby Bar is noted for its fashionable cocktails and decadent afternoon teas.

Facilities

The hotel has a 56-foot (17 m) lap pool without chlorine, a sauna, steam room, therapy treatments and gym and also has a cinema for screening films at the weekend."
