Lors de son passage à Hull le 19 septembre 1984, le pape Jean-Paul II a été accueilli par des dizaines de milliers de personnes, consacrant ainsi une des grandes pages de l'histoire religieuse de la ville de Hull.
Dans le but d'inscrire à tout jamais cet événement mémorable dans la mémoire des gens de Hull et de l'Outaouais, le maire Marcel Beaudry a procédé, lors d'une cérémonie très spéciale, au dévoilement d'un monument commémoratif de la visite papale. Il était accompagné pour cette occasion de l'archevêque du diocèse, monseigneur Roger Ébacher et d'un groupe nombreux de dignitaires ecclésiastiques et d'invités spéciaux.
Le monument qui est érigé sur le terrain des sœurs Servantes de Jésus-Marie situé au 210 de la rue Laurier a été fabriqué par la firme St-Martin et fils de Gatineau. C'est aussi à cet endroit, dans la chapelle du Monastère, que sa Sainteté le Pape célébra une messe.
D'une hauteur de 183 cm (72 po) et de 76 cm de diamètre (30 po), le monument est fait de granite noir africain de première qualité, dont toutes les surfaces sont polies. Ce cylindre repose sur une base aussi cylindrique de même matériau ayant 30 cm (12 po) de hauteur et de 107 cm (42 po) de diamètre. Une gravure de 18" de haut par 12"de large représentant le visage du Pape, ainsi qu'un texte commémoratif, apparaissent sur le cylindre principal.

"Que votre Cité soit toujours attentive à entretenir le patrimoine culturel et spirituel qui est le sien.
En souvenir de la Visite du Pape Jean-Paul II à Hull, le 19 septembre 1984. Inauguré par Monsieur le maire Marcel Beaudry et les membres du Conseil municipal, le 10 décembre 1991. "

Monument commemorating the visit by Pope John Paul II to Hull
"In an effort to commemorate this memorable event forever in the minds of the resident of Hull and the Outaouais, Mayor Marcel Beaudry unveiled a commemorative monument to the papal visit during a very special ceremony. He was accompanied by Archbishop Roger Ébacher and a large group of church dignitaries and special guests.
The monument on the property of the Sisters of Servants of Jesus-Mary at 210 rue Laurier was built by Gatineau's St-Martin et fils company. It is also on the Sister's property, in the chapel of the monastery, that his Holiness the Pope, celebrated a mass.
Measuring 183 cm (72 inches) in height and 76 cm (30 inches) in diameter, the monument is made of the finest quality African black granite. Every one of its surfaces is polished. The cylinder rests on a cylindrical base of the same material, measuring 30 cm (12 inches) in height and 107 cm (42 inches) in diameter. An engraving of 18 "high by 12" wide representing the face of the Pope, and a commemorative text appear on the main cylindeR:
"May your city always be mindful of maintaining the cultural and spiritual heritage which is his.
