Mt. Sugarloaf is composed of a sandstone rock called Sugarloaf Arkose, is a fine example of the type of geology of the Connecticut River Valley. The south summit can be reached by the The Pocumtuck Ridge Trail or by a state maintained auto road. The summit area features a pavilion for picnicking and a two-level lookout tower from which there are panoramic views of the Connecticut River Valley.
