In East Providence, along RI Route 114, is a public playground with two softball fields: Fynn and Mello Fields within the Agawam Playground.
The fields are located on the east side of Route 114/Pawtucket Avenue. There is a large parking lot beside them. These fields are designated softball fields by the East Providence Recreation Department, which maintains them. The one to the north has a sign saying "Edward C. Mello Memorial Field Dedicated April 30, 1979." The other doesn't have a sign saying a dedicated name, though the web site has the name Fynn to a field at the same location. Over the backstop (and either a consession booth or equipment storage place) is a banner with the following: "Home of Clark & Sons Class A - ASA National Champs." (ASA is Amateur Softball Association). A search on the Internet showed only a win in the nationals in 1979 - but that site only had wins to 2006 or 2007. Could they have won since?
Both fields have chain-link fences around them and a fenced backstop. Both have benches bracketed by fences. Both fields have a roundish sand area with a green outfield. There is a rubber bar at the pitcher's mound and a home plate, as well as bleacher seats. The distance to the outfield is 305 at Fynn Field and 295 at Mello field.
