Vila Nova de Milfontes it's an old fishing village, which grew terribly in the last 30 years, as the beaches around became gradually famous and started attracting a huge crowd, specially people from Lisbon and other towns of the South.
This beach is still a river beach: the Mira mouth is located here and that offers a variety of different kind of beaches, for all tastes. This one is the closest to the village and my favorite. The water is calm although it meets the open ocean just about 100 meters from here. There is a nice beach cafe, quite old, I remember seeing it there in the early 70's.
Provided coordinates are from the center of the beach. There are parking spots all around, at least off the season.
