Although his recorded works only number about 30 recordings, Iry Lejeune is one of the most influential cajun artists, and his music is still played by Cajun artists as well as still played on Cajun music radio stations. He was born into a poor family, but music was an important part of his family's life. Taught to play accordion by his father, and being half blind, he excelled at the instrument. He played through his youth to the farmers and workers of the area, and eventually moved to the Lake Charles LA area. Tragically at age 26 after playing a show, the vehicle in which he was riding had a flat tire and he was struck and killed by a passing car.
