Desperate Dan is one of the longest running comic strips in the world having appeared in issue 1 of The Dandy in 1937 and continues to appear in The Dandy today.
Desperate Dan appears in the Dandy comic by DC Thomson of Dundee, who also publish The Beano. The strongman and cowboy lives in Cactusville and loves to eat cow pies with horns sticking out from the pastry crust. These were made by his Aunt Aggie though these cow pies have not appeared in comic strips for several years.
The bronze sculpture is the work of Angus artists Tony and Susie Morrow and has been funded by public and private sources.
