The Mid-South Coliseum was home to the University of Memphis Tigers basketball team before they left for the Pyramid, which opened in 1991. The Coliseum was one of the few stops on the Beatles' final American tour, their August 19, 1966, performance her is infamously known as "the firecracker concert" due to a crowd member exploding a firecracker (which some thought was a gunshot) during the show. The Mid-South Coliseum was also well-known in professional wrestling as the home base for the United States Wrestling Association and Jerry “The King” Lawler headlining countless soldout shows at this historic facility.

Today like many of the coliseums and arenas built in the '50s and '60s the Mid-South Coliseum is endanger of being destroyed as few events are currently book at this facility.

The Mid-South Coliseum is located at Mid-South Fairgrounds Complex, and stands next to the Liberty Bowl Stadium.
