Chips is a vintage diner with a 1950's futuristic theme architecture including Vegas-level neon. They have good atmosphere, value and service.
Interestingly, artist Bill Griffith reuses the same panel scenes at Chips from the July 26, 2006 comic strip, with new conversation in the bubbles. In this strip Zippy pretends he's in his underground bunker, designed to look like Chips Googie-style restaurant. He'll already have all the vinyl, formica, formstone and plastic plants that he'll need. All he needs is a waitress to bring the wrong order and then ignore him for three hours.
Zippy had also visited Chips Restaurant just a few days earlier in 2006.
