Road Prong Cascade is one of many, but the only named, cascade on Road Prong Trail which follows an old Native American trail and a later toll road over the divide of the Smoky Mountains. The trail runs 2.4 miles from the trailhead on the Clingmans Dome Road to where it intersects with the Chimney Tops Trail. It is all downhill from the upper end so start at the top.
Road Prong is a small stream in times of low water. The trail has many areas were the walking surface is very slick, mossy rocks. There are several sections where the trail is in Road Prong. There are plenty of rocks to step on and the water is not deep enough to require wading; however I would recommend checking with the Ranger Station at Clingman's Dome before attempting the trail. If there has been a lot of rain or it is early in the year and the snow is melting you do not want to atttempt this trail.
Access to the cascade is not easy. There is a trail from Road Prong Trail but it is steep and narrow. Views of the cascade would be better during times when there are no leaves.
