In Canton, on the west side of Washington Street at the intersection with Randolph Street, is the Canton Cemetery, also known as the Canton Corner Cemetery.

The Canton Cemetery entrance is on Washington Street, across from Kenney Street. The entrance has a two iron doors, with the words, "Canton - 1716" in gold painted letters on them.

The grounds are varied, with moderate slopes creating vales and hills. The grounds can be seen from the sidewalk on Washington Street, which is above. Curving roads wind their way between monuments.

From the year on the gate, the cemetery must have been established around 1716. Thus, there are many graves that date back to colonial times. The ones that I saw were in the south part, along the road and near the First Parish, Unitarian Universalist Church Canton. There is a mixture of graves (many hard to read), monuments and crypts. One of the most well known people buried here is Richard Gridley, who was Chief Engineer for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.

According to Findagrave.com, there are about 700 people currently buried here. People are still buried here; the information is on the Canton Public Works web page for the cemetery.
