As a park, Little Lake Park dates back to the founding of Midland in the 1880's and was a popular tourist destination with tourists arriving on the Midland Railway. However, the park's history goes back much further than that. It was the site of a native Ouendat village prior to the arrival of Europeans in the 1600's. A recreation of that village stands nearby the museum in the park. This is also the site of Ontarajia, a Ouendat Ossuary or burying ground.
Today it is a large park that includes two play areas, a multiple court beach volleyball area, the Midland rowing club and an arboretum.
