The flag pole was placed by veterans organizations.  The flag pole has two flags, the US flag and the POW flag.  At the base of the flag pole is a plaque inscribed:

Dedicated July 4, 1987

Donated To The People Of Sanford.  This Flag Pole Is Dedicated To The Memory Of The Men And Women Of  The Armed Forces That Have Served In Peace Time And War Time.

By The Veterans Groups Of Sanford/Springvale. Amvets, American Legion, DAV and VFW.
