The home is large, with many rooms for a large family and a spectacular third floor walkout porch, with balustrades. turned posts, and a gabled roof. For some reason this nice amenity is only incidentally mentioned in the NRHP narrative. Also, there is supposed to be a transom over the front door and there is none so that is kind of a mystery as well. Finally the best part of this house one might argue is not part of the house, but the iron gate which surrounds the front of the house. It is the most intricate, detailed and beautiful gate I have ever seen. Words do not do it justice so look at the gallery to see and understand it for yourself.
Naturally, a building this old and unique is also a contributing structure to the Mount Holly Historic District. In my never ending quest to document all things contributing, I visited the town library to retrieve the nomination form and narratives for the historic district. The reference desk rewarded me with a very old, crumbling NRHP packet from 1969. Despite what on-line sources would have you believe, there are actually 39 contributing structures and not 36.

39. THE CRAIG MOFFETT HOUSE....1885-1886 ....41 Union Street
Two and one-half story center hall floor plan with two room depth; stone and brick foundation; clapboard walls; one bay entrance porch; two interior chimneys; six double paneled entrance doors with transom; 1/1 windows with double hung sash, trimmed with symmetrically moulded trim with center blocks; gabled roof with one dormer, plain trim, with porch extending on third floor from gabled roof.
The historical marker can be found to the right of the center porch entrance, just below eye level, attached to the gray siding. These markers, bought from the local DAR chapter, offer information on the home's original owner and occupation as well as the construction date. These wooden, white markers, have black writing, and can be found on any home which is authentic to the district but not necessarily contributing. The signs were first released in 1975 in time for the country's Bicentennial celebration. The marker reads:
