A most beautiful, idyllic house reminiscent of an English Garden home or some other fantastical home from a children's story and certainly the place of elves, gnomes and other mythical creatures. Check out the house & you'll see why.

By far my most favorite of all the contributing structures. Landscaping has tucked the home away, making it seem like it is on its own island. The house is just so much fun. Written detail cannot really capture its essence so check out the pictures.

Naturally, a building this old and unique is also a contributing structure to the Mount Holly Historic District. In my never ending quest to document all things contributing, I visited the town library to retrieve the nomination form and narratives for the historic district. The reference desk rewarded me with a very old, crumbling NRHP packet from 1969. Despite what on-line sources would have you believe, there are actually 39 contributing structures and not 36.

From the Nomination Form:
7. SAMUEL CARR HOUSE ....C 1775 ....111 Garden Street
Two and one-half story L-shaped English frame house; low stone foundation; three inside end chimneys over six fireplaces in main house; foundation for original corner fireplace; warming oven in summer kitchen; windows 6/6 on second floor and should be 9/6 on first floor flanked by paneled shutters; gabled roof with box cornices; four gabled dormers (two front and two back); center hall floor plan, two rooms deep; date of 1775 estimated by G. Edwin Brumbaugh, however.

The house does not have the usual tell tale marker which seems to dot the historic landscape of Mt. Holly.
