Wat Sri Khom Kham is the premier Wat of the northern Thai provincial capital of Phayao, on the Laos border. The Wat dates to the 15th century and contains a number of important Buddhist relics including the oldest and largest Buddha image in the province. The Wat is a "must see" tourist destination.
At the approach to the ordination hall of the wat are these two, large, Singha Indian/Hindu) styled lions, brown, red and gold in colour. They are a little larger than life-sized, and gaze protectively outwards, ready to pounce on anyone who approaches with ill intent in their hearts. They sit high up on plinths, in company with tigers. A fierce combination.
