Long Description:
Tillman Cemetery is a black cemetery on the north side of historic Route 66, 1-1/2 miles east of Luther Road. There are approximately 200 burials here.

This headstone is a simple white granite marker with flowers engraved on the two upper corners. The simple inscription reads: MACK HERROD / 1844 - 1944.

** Mack was only one when Texas was admitted as the 28th State. That same year, the potato famine in Ireland brought a mass influx of immigrants seeking a new life.
** Gold was discovered in California when Mack was only four.
** Born in full slavery times, Mack was five when Harriet Tubman escape slavery to the North and began the Underground Railroad.
** He was 13 when Elisha Otis invented the first elevator which was installed in New York City.
** Mack was 20 when the American Red Cross was formed.
** He was 50 at the turn of the century, when the hamburger was first created.
** When Oklahoma became the 47th State, Mack was 63.
** Prohibition was ratified when Mack was 75.
** Mack Herrod passed away during the years of World War II. He did not know of the bombing of Hiroshima and the end of the War.
