Wat Rong Khun is a working Thai Buddhist temple, however, it is also a magnificent visual spectacle and a major tourist attraction in the province of Chiang Rai.

The temple is entirely white in colour, eschewing the usual gold. Thus it has the informal name of "The White Temple". The noted Thai artist Mr Chalermchai Kositpipat designed the temple. Construction began in 1998 and was completed in 2008. The temple grounds cover a large area, and contain an ordination hall, quarters for the monks, exhibition hall, statues and representation of Buddhist and Hindu spiritual figures. This is a popular spot with both local and foreign tourists. It has been referred to as one of the seven wonders of modern Thailand.

Buses regularly travel to this destination, as do tuk tuks and private taxis. If you are in the province, worth a look.

Surrounding the ordination hall of this temple is a moat, and inside the moat are several water jets shooting water into the air. There are also a few temple guardian monsters shooting water jets from their mouth. Not a major feature of the temple, but here it is.
