Maelao Municipiality is found a little to the south of the provincial capital of the northern Thai province of Chiang Rai.
I could find little information about this town online. It is the smallest category of town, a "thesaban tambon". As the district of MaeLao was created in 1993, it is likely that the town came into existence either at this time or after. Clearly, the building is new and in a western style. The population of the township, as far as I can determine, is no more than ten thousand.
