As the fellowship Canoed the Anduin River after entering it at the Pillars of the Kings, they canoed The Great River before reaching Nen Hithoel & Amon Hen. The attached photos show parts of the journey. The filming of the Anduin River was broken into several sections with other parts being filmed at different rivers and locations around New Zealand. But here where we see the 3 boats (as an aerial shot) working their way down the river - the location is in fact on the Waiau River between Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri.
The main photo I have glued two together to show a comparison. This can be seen by comparing the photos of the peaks in the background. The screen shot pic clearly shows the 3 little boats guiding down the river. As I was unable to acquire an aerial shot with the same vantage - the nearest place is a viewpoint from the swingbridge that is the beginnings of the Kepler Track. I have also added the original of that shot as well as another shot or two of the boats on the same expanse of water. Also is a shot taken from the North Bank showing the Waiau River (in flood) which was part of the journey down the Anduin.
