Lake Poteriteri Hut - Remote Backcountry Shelters on Waymarking.com

The six bunk Lake Poteriteri hut is very much one of the more remoter of New Zealand's Backcountry Huts. Most access is by jetboat from Lake Hauroko, down the Wairurahiri River to the sea and then along and up the Waitutu River to Lake Poteriteri. Other than that float plane or helicopter would be other mechanical options. To hike/tramp in would require walking to Teal Bay Hut from Lake Hauroko Jetty (9hrs) and then from Teal Bay it is approx an 8hr route to Poteriteri Hut. This route crosses the Wairurahiri swingbridge and is further described in Robyn McNeil's book Moirs Guide South. (ISBN 978-0-9582791-1-6. The hut itself is a basic 6 bunk hut with a fireplace.
