Behind the row of businesses on the east side of Jim Thorpe Blvd. in downtown Prague, standing in a grassy field is a very unusual warning device. Its age is unknown, but it appears to pre-date any device we've seen in all our travels.
The siren is located atop a four-legged metal frame tower which narrows at the top. About halfway up, two smaller sirens are fixed facing North and South. At the top, a large bell appears to be made of masonry, and above that a large "horn" is most likely made of fiberglass. It is reminiscent of the vintage Victrola phonograph horns. This unit appears to be mounted on a flat circular base which would rotate during operation.
It was quite a sight, and I'm sure it is a welcome warning during tornado season.
