Robert Indiana was known for his pop art work of using large letters to spell out actions, including LOVE (nearby
Waymark WM95W1), HOPE, EAT, and HUG. In 1980-1983, the artist created a set of eight foot tall numbers for an Indianapolis real estate developer, with a stipulation that they would ultimately be donated here to the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

During February 3 to May 3, 2003, a second set of six foot tall numbers created by Robert Indiana were on display between 60th and 70th Streets along Park Avenue in New York City. nycgovparks. While Zippy creator Bill Griffith confirmed that the idea for this strip was based on those in NYC, they are not longer on public display. However, these originals can give you the idea of what Zippy was experiencing... "Singing in the rain" of numbers.
