The Our Lady of Sorrows Church parish dates to 1851 and this is the second church building for the parish. The previous church was located about a block east on the Plaza.
The second Nuestro Senora de los Dolores Church or Our Lady of Sorrows Church had its foundation laid in 1862 however the work on the church progressed slowly and was not completed until 1869. The church is constructed of red sandstone which was quarried 25 miles away in Anton Chico and hauled by wagon to the construction site. The stone was laid in a random ashlar pattern The church is in a Gothic Revival style with two square towers.
The church is in very good condition and continues to serve its parish.
