The designer of the Canadian 2 dollar coin, Brent Townsend, is a resident of Campbellford.
The 2 dollar coin was adopted by the Government of Canada in 1996, replacing the two-dollar bill, which had been in circulation since 1867.
The coin features a current effigy of the Queen on the obverse, and a polar bear scene on the reverse. The coin is unique among Canadian coinage in that there are 2 pieces pressed together, giving a bimetallic effect.
