This marker is dedicated to the
125th Illinois Volunteer Infantry and is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The 125th Illinois Infantry was organized at Danville, Illinois and mustered in to Federal service on September 3, 1862.
It marks their location on Friday September 18, 1863 at 6:00 p.m. until Saturday, September 19, 1863 at 7:00 a.m.
The commander of the 86th Illinois was Colonel Oscar F. Harmon.

2'6" x 1'2" x 2'6" high rectangular slab of dark Quincy granite. Rock-faced sides; polished & inscribed front. "Illinois" is in large raised letters on beveled top. Marks unit's position from 6:00 p.m. on 9/18/1863 to 7:00 a.m. on 9/19/1863.

Marker located outside of the Chickamauga Battlefield along Reeds Bridge Road just west of the Chickamauga Creek.
