The Golden Gate Park's Conservancy website (
visit link) says very little about the trail:
"Bay Trail at Battery East
The Battery East trail segment in San Francisco's Presidio is a key link in the overall 400-mile Bay Trail. It connects the Golden Gate Promenade and Mason Street paths with multi-use walkways and a bicycle route on the west and east sides of the Golden Gate Bridge approach." and leads us to this page (
visit link) which informs us:
"
Beginning Date: 2008
Completion Date: 2012
In 2008, the project’s first phase created bicycle, pedestrian, and accessible paths where formal alignments did not previously exist. It also significantly improved visitor experience and safety by moving cyclists and pedestrians off a dangerous stretch of roadway (formerly the only link to the Golden Gate Bridge) and on to the dedicated off-roadway, multi-use trail.
In sum, the Bay Trail Enhancement Project:
•Increased pedestrian and cyclist safety to improve overall pedestrian experience.
•Provided separate routes for pedestrians and cyclists where possible.
•Created more direct scenic and historic routes to destinations.
•Installed trails that direct pedestrians to the best viewing areas.
•Improved intersections.
•Defined road edges and stripe lanes.
•Designed and installed wayfinding and information signs.
Future Actions:
Future phases of the Bay Trail will include final connections to and under the Golden Gate Bridge and along Long Avenue, providing a link to Crissy Field" In fact, this part of the trail is at Long Avenue at Crissy Field.
