The Great Swamp is a national wildlife refuge. There have been at least 223 species of birds that have been seen in the refuge. Routinely viewed are bluebirds, woodpeckers, Canadian Geese, ducks, woodcocks, swallows, chickadees, mourning doves and swallows. The blind is about a half mile walk through level ground and boardwalks over the wet portions. Walking the boardwalks allow access to see turtles, guppies and the like. Many of the trees are tagged to identify the species.
