County seat of Baltimore County from 1712 to 1768. Ocde a rival of Baltimore, an important point for shipping tobacco and a port of entry. Benjamin Rumsey, first Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, lived here.

The marker is on the corner of the lot of the Copley Parish Episcopal Church. The marker is in new condition except for some graffiti on one face. It was recentlhy refurbished and relocated; previously the arrow contained the text "2 miles" which has been removed.
