Howell General Baptist Church is located in Evansville, IN in the area of the city formerly known as Howell. It is at the corner of Emerson and Delmar Ave.
The church was originally known as Liberty Baptist Church and was organized in 1823 by Elder Benoni Stinson, the founder of the General Baptist movement who is buried outside of the building. Several church buildings have been used including a few log buildings in the early days and finally in 1880, a building was built on Old Henderson Rd, near the current location. But soon after, a railyard was built and moved the church from that location to the current location in 1895. The building was at the current location was replaced in 1916 and that is still what current stands. It has had several additions to the building through the 1900s for classrooms.
From research, it was never found exactly when the church changed from Liberty Baptist to Howell General Baptist.
