The signage explains that all too often, time capsules are either lost before their time to be opened or the contents are damaged from the elements - so they decided to just keep their time capsule inside the lobby of the Aurora Municipal Building.

The time capsule is dedicated to the citizens of Aurora and hopes to document the growth of the City over the next 50 years. The time capsule was dedicated February 10, 2001 and will be opened in 2050. The curator has stored the artifacts in various manners to best suit the protection of that item. For instance, items written on paper are stored to ensure they do not degrade over time.

The plaque reads:

Time Capsule
Sealed 2001 - Open 2050

This Time Capsule is present to the Citizens of Aurora by
the members of City COuncil on February 10, 2001
