Wikipedia provides the following about August Willich
"August Willich (November 19, 1810–January 22, 1878), born Johann August Ernst von Willich, was a military officer in the Prussian Army and a leading early proponent of Communism in Germany. In 1847 he discarded his title of nobility. He later immigrated to the United States and became a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War."

The brigade, with Baldwin’s on its left, and Dodge’s in reserve reached this position about 1 O’clock P.M. Sept. 19th, and became heavily engaged with troops of Cheatham’s Division. After two hours of severe fighting the enemy withdrew to the high ground beyond Winfrey House. When the contest opened Dodge’s Brigade moved up on the right. And at 3 O’clock the Union line had been advanced to the immediate vicinity of Winfrey’s.
