Lyon Street is a North-South Street in the Pacific Heights Neighborhood of San Francisco running along the eastern border of the
Presidio. As it reaches Green Street, it becomes too steep for cars and this stairway enables pedestrians to climb a three story hill to Vallejo Street. The stairs are paved concrete with a metal hand railing up the center. There is one landing at the halfway point on the stairs. Large bushes line the sides of the stairway with ivy plantings and flowers on the hillside.
The view at the top of the stairs across Pacific Heights towards the San Francisco Bay and Marin County are worth the climb. After crossing Vallejo, the beautiful Upper Lyon Street stairway climbs another five stories to Broadway Street. Both the upper and lower stairway are frequented by stair climbing runners.
Given coordinates are at the bottom entrance off of a loop above Green Street. Coordinates at the top of the stairway on Vallejo Street are N37 47.632 , W122 26.796.
