This historical marker is situated on the north side of Nordstrom and west of the Amussen Building facade and the Flutter fountain in the City Creek Center. The marker reads:
RICHARDS STREET
FORMER LOCATION OF RICHARDS FAMILY CEMETERY
Richards Court is named for Willard Richards, an apostle and counselor to Brigham Young, who occupied this property beginning in 1847. At his death in 1854, he was buried in the family cemetery near his house. In 1890 when the property was developed for commercial use, the Richards family graves were moved to the Salt Lake City cemetery.
Richards Street connected South Temple and First South streets. Among the businesses which located on the street were the Utah Woolen Mills, Wasatch Meats, and the Deseret News Publishing Company. In the 1980s, the street was closed for the construction of the Crossroads Plaza shopping mall.
