"Das Motto "Nur das Beste ist gut genug!" vererbte der Firmengründer Christiansen an seinen Sohn Godtfred Kirk, der 1958 die Geschäftsführung übernahm. Er hatte die Idee, einen Park für die ganze Familie zu schaffen, der auf den beliebten LEGO Steinen und deren zahlreichen Kombinierungsmöglichkeiten basiert.
Der erste LEGOLAND Park eröffnete 1968 in Billund.
Von Anfang an war der Park ein richtiges Familienparadies: mit dem berühmten Miniland, einer großen LEGO Eisenbahn, Puppentheater, Indianerlager und Verkehrsschule sowie unzähligen LEGO Steinen, mit denen Kinder und Erwachsene nach Belieben bauen konnten. Die Idee war ein voller Erfolg: bereits in der ersten Sommersaison kamen 625.000 Besucher.
Seit dem 17. Mai 2002 hat auch Deutschland im bayerischen Günzburg seinen LEGOLAND Park. Für ein Investitionsvolumen von über 150 Millionen Euro bietet der Park alle Highlights seiner Vorgänger sowie zahlreiche neue Attraktionen. Aufgrund seiner geografischen und strukturellen Vorteile hatte sich der Standort in der alles entscheidenden letzten Runde im September 1999 gegen Japans Hauptstadt Tokio durchgesetzt.
