- Quelle: (

"Saint John of Nepomuk is the patron of the rafters, millers, sailors, and confessors of the bridges. Man finds his character on many bridges in Austria and Germany. He is regarded as a martyr for the sanctity of the confessional.
Welflin John was born about 1345 in Plzen and Nepomuk studied in Prague and Padua. He earned his PhD in theology and law. The Archbishop appointed him his private secretary, a notary of the bishop's office and a preacher in Prague's Old Town. He was appointed to high offices of the church. His advice was often sought in litigation: impartiality, honesty and incorruptibility recorded from him.
Because of the extravagant lifestyle had changed in character King Wenceslas IV also fundamentally and there was constant tension between the court and to church.
Although previously been in favor with the king, so finally went to the frenzied Nepomuk hatred of the king. Nepomuk was confessor and adviser to the quiet queen. The king had asked him to betray the confession to his wife. When he refused he was arrested and cruelly tortured by the streets of the city to Moldova dragged, tied to the Prague bridge thrown in and drowned. Legend has it that brought the body of the martyr on the surface of the water and was surrounded by bright stars, the glow attracted a lot of people, especially the poor cause. The next day he wore the canons in the church.
A marble plaque at Prague's Charles Bridge today shows the place where that was sacred to her death. As one 1719 his sarcophagus opened in Prague's St. Vitus Cathedral, his tongue was incorrupt. Nepomuk was spoken in 1729 sacred.
Also at the Inn Bridge Kufstein, for years a Nepomuk statue was erected, but this was torn down by vandals twice and then disappeared. The Rotary Club of Kufstein under President Leonard Zanier was 2003/2004 this monument was built again "- Source:. (
